The UK is one of Europe’s strongest markets for palletised freight, with an excellent road network and a well-established pallet distribution model that helps businesses move goods cross–country effectively. Pallet delivery across the UK is the backbone of domestic distribution: in 2024, GB-registered HGVs lifted 1.59 billion tonnes of goods, moved 168 billion tonne-kilometres, and completed 165 million freight journeys within the UK. But what makes it so easy to send a pallet within the UK? Palletways says its network handles close to 6 million pallets a year, while other carriers like TPN operate 140+ depot locations and deliver to almost every postcode in the country.
Pallet shipping sits inside a much larger freight economy, and in the UK, specifically, there’s strong demand for fast service. APN’s Q1 2025 figures show that 61.1% of pallet-network volumes moved on next-day services, and 15.3% of pallets were delivered to residential addresses.

Keep all items neatly within the pallet's footprint. Anything extending beyond the edges is more prone to knocks in transit and may incur extra charges if additional vehicle space is required.

All goods you send via pallet shipping across the UK should be securely fastened to the pallet using materials such as shrink wrap, ratchet straps, rope, or banding.

Shipments may be handled and reloaded several times during transit, so the load must be stable and evenly balanced, with no excessive weight at the top. Wrap individual items with cushioning materials such as bubble wrap, cardboard, polystyrene or similar protective packaging before transit to protect your shipment.

Items moved during pallet delivery are sometimes stacked in transit to make the best use of space, so any load that must not have items placed on top should be clearly marked on the outside.
Please note that engines and gearboxes cannot be sent through the standard pallet services shown online. These items must travel on a dedicated service, so be sure to contact our team on 0871 288 5741 for a tailored quote.
